James Colyer Signs With Washington Nationals | Ballers Champion to MLB Organization
Feb 4, 2026
Oakland baseball keeps delivering.
James Colyer, a cornerstone of the 2025 Oakland Ballers Championship bullpen, has officially signed a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals, becoming the first Ballers champion to sign with an MLB organization.
In this episode, James Colyer sits down with Ballers Assistant GM Tyler Petersen and VP of Communications & Fan Entertainment Casey Pratt for an in-depth conversation about his journey — from growing up in Hayward and playing high school ball at James Logan, to dominating out of the Ballers bullpen, to taking the next step toward the big leagues.
Colyer was a force in 2025:
36 relief appearances (3rd most on the team)
3.77 bullpen ERA (2nd best on the staff)
55 strikeouts in 43.0 innings
A key piece of a championship season in Oakland
We talk about what this moment means to James, the grind it took to get here, his roots in the East Bay, and what it represents for the Ballers as a player-development pipeline — now five players strong in MLB affiliate systems.
From Oakland to Washington, this is what building something real looks like.
